John WellsPhotographed for You Magazine 14th April 1983

Satirist who started his career writing for ‘That was the week that was’. When I photographed him at home in Kensington he was playing Margaret Thatcher’s husband in ‘Anyone for Dennis’ at the Whitehall Theatre.

It was our idea to photograph him with a bottle of Perrier water in contrast to Dennis Thatcher’s reputation for a liking of the harder stuff. This was an early commission from Jayne Gould the Art director at ‘You’ magazine who showed a great deal more confidence in me than I did in myself at the time!
